It’s the Small Things….

Like…

  • A sunset park play after a sultry, long summer
  • A shower before 3pm
  • The frosted glass doors of my wardrobe unit
  • Her saying “I remember when Daddy woke me up to kiss my goodbye this morning”
  • Pump-bottles of conditioner, shampoo, and body wash
  • Freshly mopped floors
  • The first reading of a new library book
  • Him, in his sister’s pink nightgown, hair tousseled from sleep
  • A breeze in the desert
  • Epsom salts in a moonlit bath
  • Hearing him engage in an evening science experiment with them
  • 90 degrees, instead of 100
  • Dribbling the olive oil from France into the pan
  • Unexpected gift packages, filled with fabrics and earth-medicine and clay and paintings
  • Cleaning out your ears
  • Maternity skinny jeans

And sometimes it’s the Big Things…

  • The view from the Mogollon Rim
  • A diesel truck big enough to seat 6 and powerful enough to tow our travel trailer
  • A trip to the ocean
  • Emergence, of all kinds
  • A house plan, on paper for me;  already built in his mind
  • A diet free from dogma
  • Jerky punches and smooth rolls from the womb, even when it makes me nauseous at times
  • Mothers.  Fathers. Grandmothers. Grandfathers.  Ancestors.
  • Drinking in the whole of the azure sky in one gaze
  • Ong Namo, and her lilt right at “with our voice…and I’m coming home” that strikes my heart like a crystal singing bowl
