why would i fight it?
of course i belong here
between your two warm bodies.
and then, later, i plan an escape
one appendage at a time
hoping the bed boards won’t creak this time
last night, I was wearing palazzo pants
soft and flowing like a river
and after your breathing slowed
i raised one leg in the air, slowly
pointing toes
as if dancing a ballet
moving to the music of Beethoven’s
Sonata No. 14 in C sharp minor
otherwise known as “Moonlight”
my feet choreographed
a silent exit from
mattress to floor
the burden of drawing you near
to lull you to sleep
is truly, more honestly
the gift you bestow me
my audacity to think otherwise
leaves me reticent
this is the time for stillness
the moments to memorize
your bedtime rituals and habits
this is the time to let
twilight swathe us in magic
that can never be captive
You are so divine. xo
Yes, you are divine. There’s no better word.
