Life Comes in a Stream of Consciousness Nowadays

Yes, sometimes Life calls for a row of Oreos dunked in milk
and then spinach leaves later
Sometimes you really just need to sleep 10 more minutes
and let your kids watch a quasi-learning cartoon
(it makes us feel better if we think they learn something)

and hear them through your brief dreams repeating after Dora: “Salsa! Salsa!”

And really, sometimes it’s perfectly acceptable to pause mid-cleaning
and sit down with a bag of pita chips
and check your email and facebook and postsecret
and maybe if you are feeling really saucy – TMZ, too
Even though you realize you should really be paying bills

Sometimes Life asks that you sink into the deepest, warmest, most lavender of baths
and read Billy Collins or Shakespeare aloud
by the light of a flickering candle that smells of ocean
And after you climb out, let the oil bead on your skin
and slip naked into clean sheets to rest

Sometimes Life says “Go weed that yard and please be mindful while you do it”
And begrundingly you do it, picking stems as your hands
are stained green and brown from the earth
and you begin to sink into the rhythm of the work
realizing it is life’s work, really
and that it’s also ok to only finish a tiny corner of the yard

Yet, there are times where we strain our necks and our ears
to hear Life calling and when we can’t hear it
we wonder “What did I do? Why can’t I hear?”
And perhaps it’s just chillin’ in that cave
asking us to come, come, come
and hibernate

Awesome photo, I’m jealous you aren’t bundled up in sweaters and hats and mittens and etc.
And, tonight, Life is telling me to put the kids to bed early and crawl into bed with a glass of wine and enjoy some crappy reality TV.

Beautiful post Leigh. Beautiful. Like so many times before, you capture the essence of something I really need to know, now.

And btw, just caught up on Flickr and OMG. The girls – beautiful, growing, ponytails – both, the brown eyed, blue eyed version of pixieness. And YOU – stunning, gorgeous, tiny, saucy…not to mention alot of time with your Man. Lucky! Looks like you are falling in love all over again. What a gift.
