Party in S. Dakota

  • Thirty-five hours of driving, over the course of four days, through five states in two time zones = exhausting.
  • Three cars in a caravan (“Chuck Wagon” – later modified to Up-chuck Wagon -, “Fruit Wagon”, and “Wagon Master”), one walkie-talkie in each car. = good times.
  • One speeding ticket, garnered by Dad = pretty lucky.
  • Shuffling around thirteen human beans, one under two years old, and one 35ish weeks pregnant = interesting.
  • Bladder-control breaks every hour and a half = relief.
  • Four nights in an adorable three bedroom log cabin built in 1972, shared with five siblings and their partners, and two children, one bathroom, and an overflowing toilet = cozy.
  • Visits to approximately eight national monuments/parks/hiking areas/roadside attractions (including Crazy Horse, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Wall Drug, The Corn Palace, Devil’s Tower) = busy.
  • Surrounded by a wandering herb of 1100 buffalo = magestic.
  • Over 600+ photos taken by various family members = overwhelming.
  • Three geo- caches (unattended by me) = adventure.
  • Seven days without internet access = gasp!
  • Hearing our collective “YaHOO!” echo through the mountains = humbling.
  • A once-in-a-lifetime family vacation in honor of my Dad’s retirement, celebrated in the Black Hills of S. Dakota = priceless.
